Eating Cheese



Small pieces of cheese are placed over each of twelve numbers on the face of a circular clock. A mouse eats the cheese over the number 1 and walks clockwise around the clock, eating every other piece of cheese. What number will be under the last uneaten piece of cheese?
Explain (the steps) how you received the answer that you did.

    i got the answer eleven because when you count you count like this 1,3,5,7,9,11 you get eleven because if you went over then you would go to twelve and you don't count even numbers only odd if you count every other number.

    If he starts at 1 and goes around eating every other piece then he'll go 1,3,5,7,9,11. Then he skips the 12th piece and goes on 2,4,6,8,10, leaving the 12th piece to be the last.

    if the mouse starts with one he will eat every other piece of cheese. that means 1 3 5 7 9 11 the last non eating piece of cheese is 12

    If the mouse ate the number one on the clock and skiped one he would eat 3 then 5 then 7 then 9then he ate 11 then he ate 2 then 4 then 6 then 8 then10 then 12. so that means that number twelve is last

    I got the cheese question of 12 by slowly writing 1,3,5,7,9,11,1 making 12 be the last uneaten piece of cheese for the mouse.

  24. Every other peice of chesse is 1,3,5,7,9,11,and the other numbers are 2,4,6,8,10,12 and the last uneaten peice of chesse is 12.

    The last piece of cheese has the number 12 under it, because if he eats number 1 and goes clockwise eating every other piece he eats 1,3,5,7,9, and 11 so that leaves 2,4,6,8,10, and 12 under the last piece of cheese.

    The number that is under the last piece of cheese that he eats is the number eleven.I got this answer by counting by odd numbers and I checked my answer by looking at the clock and skipping ever other number.

    the last number he has eaten is 12.i have figered that out by drawling the problem out as a picture. I counted all the way around the clock till i found out that the last number is 12

    A clock goes from the number 1 to the number 12, as you already know, and if the mouse ate every other piece of cheese starting at 1 he would be eating all of the odd numbers.One would be first, then three,five,seven,nine then under his last piece of cheese would be the number 11 because after 9 comes 10 but we would skip that number making the last number 11. that's how i got my answer.

    I wanted 2 post a hint to everybody from my follow up post and some words of wisdom. If u do well in class u can get through anything. The hint to the question is that u start from 1 and he EATS it and then he skips 1 so 3 and so on.

  40. The answer would be 8.
    In the mouse's first trip around the clock, it eats the cheese on all the odd numbers. When it has eaten the cheese on number 11, the following numbers still have cheese: 12, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10.

    Remember, it must eat every other piece encountered. Therefore, after 11, it will eat 2, 6, and 10. The mouse is now on 10, and cheese remains on 12, 4, and 8.

    It will then eat the cheese on 4, leaving 8 and 12. It will skip 8 and eat 12's cheese, leaving 8 as the last number containing cheese.
